Roof lanterns are designed for flat or very low-pitched roofs. Common applications include kitchen extensions, orangeries, garden rooms, flat-roof dormers, and single-storey rear extensions. They’re also popular as part of solid roof conservatory conversions — replacing a central section of tiled roof with glazing to maintain natural light.
Significantly more than vertical windows alone. Because roof lanterns capture light from directly overhead, they illuminate the centre of a room — reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day. The Skypod’s slimline frame design maximises the glass area relative to the overall footprint.
Self-cleaning glass has a special coating that reacts with UV light to break down organic dirt, which is then washed away by rainwater. It doesn’t eliminate all cleaning, but it significantly reduces the frequency — especially useful for roof-mounted glazing that’s difficult to access.
In south-facing rooms, any overhead glazing can contribute to heat gain in summer. We recommend solar control glass for south-facing installations, which reduces heat transmission while still allowing plenty of natural light. Opening vents also help by allowing hot air to escape through the roof lantern.
Eurocell Skypod roof lanterns carry a 10-year manufacturer guarantee from Eurocell, covering the framework and sealed glazing units against manufacturing defects under normal use.
